Local Community Gardens

This is an abridged list of community food gardens serving the Asheville areaPlease feel free to let us know of more gardens to add to this list. 

Antigua’s Garden : at 46 Dortch St. is for women and children only (males until age 10).

Black Mountain Community Garden:  White Pine Drive, Black Mountain
the Black Mountain Community Garden seeks to provide space where families in our valley can grow vegetables for their own use, donate fresh vegetables to families in need, educate children and adults in the life-long skill of growing vegetables, and create community around gardening and the valuable lesson of sharing with others.

Burton Street Community Peace & Martha Jane’s Garden:  47 Bryant Street in West Asheville.

Burton Street Community Garden is part of the vibrant heartbeat of the diverse Burton Street Community, reaching out with food, art, garden plots, economic opportunities, activities, education, and a place to meet the neighbors.

 

Claxton Community Garden is located on the grounds of Merrimon Baptist Church.

 

Pearson Garden:  408 Pearson Drive in the Montford Neighborhood.

This garden is owned by Bountiful Cities and where the organization began in 2000.

 

Dr. George Washington Carver Edible Park: at the Stephens-Lee Recreation Center is located.

Contains a diverse collection of fruiting plants for public education.

 

Grace Covenant Community Garden:  789 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville.
The Grace Covenant Community Garden is tended by 26 families composed of GCPC members and area neighbors. Garden members harvest modest amounts of food for their own tables, and garden volunteers deliver boxes of vegetables to community kitchens and food pantries.

Joyner Garden:  23 Joyner Ave. in West Asheville.

The Lord’s Acre: 32 Joe Jenkins Road, Fairview.

The Lord’s Acre is a faith garden project organized and sponsored by local churches and individual volunteers. It provides fresh vegetables for Food for Fairview and Manna FoodBank.

 

Magnolia Park: Magnolia Ave in the Montford section of Ashevile

Supported by the Buncombe Fruit and Nut Club

 

Pisgah View: 1 Granada St. West Asheville

Serves the local low income community

 

Shiloh Community Garden: South Asheville at 59 Hampton and is owned by the Shiloh Community Association.

 

Vermont Park: Morris & Talmadge Sts. West Asheville

Supported by the Buncombe Fruit and Nut club and West Asheville volunteers

 

YETI!:

YETI! is for youth in grades 6-12, and uses the garden as an outdoor learning lab. Youth develop their leadership skills as well as critical thinking and 21st Century Skill-sets.
